Derek Scrimgeour Clinic at Diamond J Farm

Wednesday and Thursday, November 2-3, 2016

Lass, Duncan and I settled in our places to head to Yerington, NV.  Mommy told me that we were going to the farm where I was born.  Lost on me but I believe her.

We arrived on Tuesday afternoon and we ran and ran in the big field.  Duncan checked out every corner of the field and declared it his!  Lass and I had fun exploring all of the smells.  Lass told me she has been here several times before and it always means fun!  I am not sure what she means....

Wednesday morning we met Derek Scrimgeour.  He spent time telling Mommy and the rest of the participants about his training methods and what he likes to accomplish with his dogs and what he likes to see in a dog.  Mommy liked him.  Lass got to work first.  She loves it but it is still lost on me....  I like the smells and have discovered a new delicacy:  sheep poop!  But I do not understand "work".  Mommy says I will...

Derek and Mommy were pleased with her and Lass was in her glory!  She loves doing this work stuff...  it is still lost on me.  Derek told Mommy that Lass is kind to her sheep..  whatever that means.
Duncan got to supervise....  He complained because the windshield was dirty...

Wednesday afternoon Lass got to work again and she was very happy.

Thursday Lass worked again but it was my turn too....  I was still confused...  I do not know what this "work" stuff is.  Mommy says, just wait...

My first lesson was Thursday morning.  This is my first time up and close to sheep.  They are MUCH bigger than I thought...  and they have horns!

Derek and Mommy are trying to help me but this is all so new and the sheep are big and have horns....

Mommy said I will have a couple of hours to think about all of this...

Thursday afternoon I got to see the sheep again.  Something started happening in my brain....  maybe I am supposed to bark?

No, that doesn't seem right....

Oh!  Now I know what the horns are for...

This is amazing..  now I know why I was born...

The ride home..

October 17, 2016

Duncan, Lass and I settled into our spots for our trip home.  Daddy wanted to stop at the Thor factory on the way home to see how the Coaches are made.  Mommy and Daddy said it was revealing...  Lass, Duncan and I did not understand but we had fun playing on the grass in the area where we camped at the factory.

Next we headed to North Platte, NE where Daddy spent summers as a kid.  We didn't have time to spend there as we have to be home for the Pahrump Valley Obedience Club Show.  Mommy and Daddy are doing the raffle table and Lass is part of the Rally Team.  Duncan and I don't understand...

We saw lots of sheep along the road....  Lass got so excited....  I didn't understand.  Duncan slept.

There were many corn fields that have yet to be harvested.  Beautiful country with miles and miles of fields.  I wanted to run and run....   Lass was looking for sheep.  Duncan slept.

We saw many trains and fellow campers.  All along the route there were numerous wind farms.  Mommy likes those....

In Colorado, three deer crossed the road in front of us.  I was too surprised to take a picture.  Mommy and Daddy were more than surprised and Mommy made a comment about brown pants...  I am not sure what that means...

After that we saw antelope, buffalo, horses, cows....  Daddy wouldn't stop so I could take a good picture.

In New Mexico, we traveled through Raton Pass.  Three miles of winding, steep roads with beautiful scenery.  Mommy was nervous; Daddy was grinning....  Lass, Duncan and I slept...   That night we stayed in Albuquerque at the High Desert RV Park.  They had three dog runs and were we happy!  Lots of places to play ball and stretch our legs!

Tuesday, October 25th, we arrived home.  The following weekend was the PVOC Show and Lass was a member of the Rally Team both Friday and Saturday.  Both days Lass and her team finished in first place.  Mommy and the team were happy, Lass was wiggly, Duncan and I slept.

To Michigan to visit Grammy...

October 2, 2016

Lass, Duncan and I loaded up in the coach for our long ride to Michigan.  We were all excited because Mom and Dad said we were going to meet Grammy and help her celebrate her 95th birthday!  That must be quite a milestone as Mommy and Daddy were very excited....  Lass and Duncan and I were not quite sure...

We traveled through Arizona and stayed at Black Bart's RV Park in Flagstaff the first night.  Mommy likes this park because they have a great restaurant where the wait staff sing and perform during dinner.  She wanted to hear her favorite baritone, Sergio, but he had the night off.  Sergio is majoring in Classical Music at the local university.  Next time...

Just outside of Flagstaff, we met a caravan of eight rental RVs.  They seemed to be traveling together and we hope they are enjoying their time in the United States.  Safe travels!!

Following Interstate 40, we took a detour to downtown Gallop, NM.  Both Mom and Dad commented on how the town has changed!  Growth is everywhere!  The town is booming with emphasis on the tourist trade.  Great town and we have been promised another trip to Gallop to spend more time.

All along US40 in Texas and Oklahoma we saw wind farms.  Some gigantic and some smaller.  All producing power.

In Oklahoma City we stayed at the Mustang Ranch RV Park.  They have a dog run and I found a tennis ball!  Mom let me play with it, well, I had to share with Duncan, but she wouldn't let me keep it.  She said it wasn't mine...  it is!  I found it!  No, leave it for some other dog to play with....

The next day we stopped in Missouri and I saw my first grey squirrel!  The RV park is woodsy, Lass loved that, and there were a plethora of smells!  Lass, Duncan and I had a wonderful stay!

Finally on October 8th we made it to Michigan!  We stayed a week at the Wayne County Fairgrounds...  and I saw my first fox.  Now that was exciting!  He just looked at me and I looked at him...  then he trotted away.   Mommy wouldn't let me become friends...  I am not sure why...

Tuesday, October 11th, was Grammy's 95th birthday.  We didn't get to go to the party...  The next day was Mommy and Daddy's anniversary...  they went out to dinner....  we didn't get to go there either....

Finally Grammy came to see us and we got to meet her!  What fun!  She liked me best....  she told me she liked me best!

We are not looking especially happy because we are in the pen, but we really liked meeting Grammy...  especially me since she liked me best!

From the road--
